THOSE WERE THE DAYS
21st July 2001
Pre-Season Friendly
HRBFC 0 Wimbledon 1 Att; 563

HRBFC;-
Stuart MacKenzie; Steve Omonua, Darren Deegan, Chris Robinson, Anthony Howard, Fiston Manuella, Richard O’Connor, Steve French, Richard Thompson, Danny Alleyne, Ronnie Girvan.
Subs, all used;-
Adam Dunsby; Gregory, Bakashan, Clark, Warren Williams, Richard Taylor, Gary Drewett, Leon Canning, Ryan Hillary, Paul de Luca, Dudley Gardner.

Wimbledon;-
Ian Feuer; Darren Holloway, Des Byrne, Mikele Leigertwood, Chris Willmott, Andy Roberts, Par Karlsson, Alex Tapp, Jobi McAnuff, Michael Hughes, Neil Shipperley.
Subs, all used;-
Paul Heald; Mensing, Adam Nowland, Jenkins.

The Beavers were missing nine regulars so Steve Cordery was forced to send out a very inexperienced side against Wimbledon in this pre-season friendly. Despite this Hampton did create some early chances, Manuella was denied when Ian Feuer tipped his effort over the bar. Howard, Hampton’s young centre-half did a good job in monitoring Neil Shipperley, whilst MacKenzie looked very secure and made some good saves during his first half outing. In the second half Darren Holloway struck the post, whilst Gardner went close with a 30 yard free-kick which struck the angle of post and crossbar. Late on, Shipperley, on his debut for the Dons, won the game with a firm far post header which gave substitute keeper, Dunsby, no chance.

I had 513 down for the attendance (based on subsequent pre-season programmes) - is 563 a typo?
Any idea of the linesmen for this fixture (not named in the programme) - many thanks.

Was this the game where I think Wimbledon played two games that day. We got the first choice attacking players and the first choice defence played elsewhere.

My manual ecords have 563, but, hey, it was a long time ago. As regards Asst Refs, don't have any idea!!

I have a vague recollection of something odd about that day.

Yes, Wimbledon also sent a squad to play Sutton United the same day.
