THOSE WERE THE DAYS
21st November 2009

F A Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round

HRBFC 3 (Collier, S Lake, Matthews, (p)) Concord Rangers 2 Att; 264

HRBFC ;-
Matt Lovett; Marcello Fernandes, Craig Tanner, Orlando Jeffrey, Nathan Collier (John Scarborough, 88’), Dean Wells, Stuart Lake, Ian Hodges, Craig Dundas (Lawrence Yaku, 71’), Ashley Smith (Dean Inman, 82’), Barrie Matthews.

Hampton won through to the next round thanks to three excellent saves from Lovett and errors in the visitor’s defence. With the game still goalless, Lovette denied Ross Wall on the half-hour, a few minutes later Collier seized on a long ball and when Concord’s keeper, Dale Brightly and defender Lee Williams got into a tangle, Collier had the easy task of placing the ball into an empty net. Lake put Hampton 2-0 ahead, after an hour, having shared passes with Hodges and Dundas, his shot beating a defender’s outstretched hand. With 15 minutes to go, Yaku was tripped and Matthews put the penalty away for what seemed a comfortable 3-0 lead. Concord then struck twice in the last six minutes putting Hampton under some late pressure. In the last couple of minutes another excellent save from Lovett saw Hampton through to the next round and avoiding a midweek replay in deepest Essex.
