THOSE WERE THE DAYS
30th November 1963
Surrey Senior League Cup 1st Round
Hampton 6 (Whing 2, Dowling 2, Jennings, Hill) Farncombe 0
Hampton ;-
Joe Andrews, Gerry Biggs, Roger Blackmore, Peter Jennings, Ron King, Don Bevan, Jakie Cooper, Ron Griffin, Johnny Whing, Georgie Hill, Joe Dowling.
Thanks to a good defensive display, Farncombe restricted Hampton to one goal in the first half. Hampton attacked right from the kick off, Griffin was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. Jennings took the free-kick, his shot hitting an upright on its way into the net. Farncombe opted to play long balls across the pitch from one wing to another but they only troubled Andrews once and he had had to fling himself across to make a magnificent save. Ten minutes into the second half Whing scored the second goal with a header from a Jennings cross. Five minutes later Whing scored his second. Dowling then scored Hampton’s fourth, thanks to an incisive pass by Bevan. Hampton kept up the pressure and Hill crashed in the fifth with ten minutes to go. The sixth goal was set up by Griffin who squared the ball to Dowling on the edge of the penalty area, he responded by hammering the ball home.
