A missed penalty cost the chance of a replay against local rivals Staines in the F A Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round. The win was the third victory by the Swans over the Beavers that season. Vagg was called into action as early as the second minute when he pushed away a powerful shot by George Link. Five minutes later Staines took the lead, Link following in his own shot which had hit a post. Hampton equalised in the 19th minute, Richard Smith scoring after a corner. Steve Flack and Marshall went close for both sides just before the interval. Five minutes into the second half, Marshall shot over from a good position. The winning goal came in the 68th minute, Phil Unwin running on to a through ball and placing it wide of Vagg. The chance for Hampton to level the scores came in the 76th minute. Chris Wheatley handled the ball in a goalmouth scramble. Richard Smith hit the ball to the right of Peter Allies but the Staines keeper had guessed correctly and made a good save.
