A frustrating afternoon for the Beavers when one of their former players came back to deprive them of a win. In atrocious conditions, both teams had to battle through mud, water and gale-force winds. Hampton took the lead three minutes before half-time through Inns. Matthews was fouled just outside the penalty area, Inns got in amongst the flying boots, losing his trademark headband in the process, to head in Godfrey’s free-kick for his first goal of the season. Match referee, Kevin Haines, might have been abandoning the game at half-time due to the morass that was the pitch, however with one team ahead, he decided to keep going. Carshalton kept on battling and equalised on the hour mark. Mark Marshall crossed and ex-Beaver Luke Fontana headed in at the far post. Both teams could have won the game; substitutes Frost & Paris both went close whilst Lovell denied Carshalton’s Jerome Maledon. Not sure if the groundsman was too happy with the state of the pitch after the game!
