Hampton had to make do without Jim Wigmore and Barry Moore (both suspended) - however Horton made a very effective replacement for Moore. As regards for the match itself, it was the pace of Bryan that was the key to Hampton’s win at bottom side, Worthing. Hampton dominated the early stages of the contest, Tim Read, Worthing’s keeper, at one stage had to deal with six consecutive corners. In the 33rd minute, Bryan’s pace took him clear of the home defenders before he cut back the ball for Horton to score Hampton’s opener. Bryan was running Danny Smith ragged early in the second half but it was Vines, ghosting in between two defenders, unselfishly set up Horton for his second strike on goal. Bryan and Reilly both went close before Hampton added a third goal. Rattue was the provider with an accurate corner, that was headed in by Vines five minutes before the end. After the final whistle, Bryan and Smith who had tussled all game long didn’t exactly shake hands as – swop punches!
