A season summed up in one game. 2-0 ahead, looking for only their third league win of the season.….the Beavers then conceded three goals to lose yet again. After just six minutes an in-swinging corner from Darren Deegan was nudged home by Rose for his first goal for the club. In the 12th minute it was double delight as Hampton took a 2-0 lead with Rose, the scorer again, this time following in on Inns free-kick which came back off an upright. Unfortunately, the good feeling didn’t last long. The visitors pulled a goal back on the half hour, Freddie Hyatt setting up Craig Mackell-Smith, minutes later Simon Martin made it 2-2 to end Hampton’s mini-revival. The second half belonged to St Albans, only smart saves from Iga keeping the score level. In the 56th minute St Albans scored the winner through a header by Greg Deacon. Around this time Maidenhead United announced that their manager, Alan Devonshire, would be leaving at the end of the season (if only I had put £5 on him joining the Beavers during the summer!)
