A last league game of the season with Staines already champions, whilst Hampton wanted to win with the chance of finishing runners-up. In the end a game, that was more ‘big boot’ than good football, was settled by two late goals both set up by an ex-Hampton player, Arthur Rowlands. Hampton failed to impress up front despite the midfield play of Wenlock. Both defences held firm and were willing to get the ball upfield as quickly as possible. Micky Walsh had the best chance of the first half but his shot whizzed wide of an upright. Five minutes from time, Rowlands produced the first of two excellent crosses that led to a comfortable Staines victory. The first gave Bobby Bennett the time to pick his spot, the second enabling David Lay to head the ball wide of Whiteaker. Staines only lost one league game during the season (and did the double over Hampton) finishing ten points clear of runners-up, Worthing, with Hampton, 3rd.

We had many a game with Staines over the years and generally we came out on top.
They currently are languishing way down the football pyramid (combined counties div1) They have just avoided relegation. They play at Abbey Rangers ground in Chertsey before crowds generally less than 100. Their name has changed to Staines and Lamas Middlesex
Just shows what can happen with poor owners.
