Hampton’s opponents were a mixed QPR side, bolstered by several first team regulars, QPR could have scored in the 14th minute but Frank Moussa and Allesandro Pelleconi both misfired. It was nine minutes into the second half when at last a goal came, Hodges getting his head to a cross and diverting the ball into the net. In the 64th minute, just after Hampton had made a multitude of substitutions, QPR equalised. Antonio German found the space to head the ball past Lovett. Yaku and Yarnie both went close for the Beavers but it was the visitors who scored six minutes from time. Again, it was German with a header, Lovett palmed the ball away only for the QPR striker to hit home the rebound.

Listed in the QPR squad was Martin Rowlands, son of Arthur who played for Hampton in the late 1960s. Adam Rowlands, another son, had a short spell with the Beavers in 1995/96.
