Lovett was the busier keeper at the start, but, then Hampton settled down. Godfrey fired over the bar after twelve minutes, then in the 20th minute it all went pear-shaped. Fontana was brought down near the corner flag and a mass brawl erupted. Referee Alison Chapman red-carded Harper and Scott Cousins from the opposition. The remainder of the half was largely forgettable. In the second half the game came back to life. City took the lead on 61 minutes, a long clearance from Bastock was collected by Paul Hakim, who, traded passes with Simon Martin before firing past Lovett. Five minutes later Hakim had a header come back off the bar, but, Martin, following in, tapped it in. In the 75th minute Paul Ada committed a foul in the penalty area allowing Hampton new boy, Quarm, to pull a goal back. Five minutes later it was deja-vu time as Ada committed the exact same offence to concede a second penalty. Unfortunately, something happened with the time-warp as Quarm, taking the penalty, managed to deposit the ball into the back of the stand.
