Hampton had a fairly comfortable afternoon, despite a late arrival at the ground – that pesky M25! - in beating bottom side, Grays Athletic. Maskell returned from injury but it was all about Griffiths. The mercurial Griffiths enjoyed himself and despite missing a few good chances, scored a brace of goals. His first came after fifteen minutes courtesy of a pass by Holloway, scoring from 12 yards. The game settled down with Grays only having a shot into the side netting in the first half. Griffiths’ second goal came after a diagonal ball looking for him, had the Grays defence back-peddling, trying to shield the ball back to their keeper, Tony Baker. Baker was only able to divert the ball away, Griffiths reacted quickly and slid the ball into an unguarded net. Grays then pulled a goal back through Danny Hazell and for a while they had thoughts of at least getting a draw. However, Hampton still had another goal in their locker. Williams chased down a long pass from Griffiths, won a challenge, got up and slotted the ball past an out of position Banks.
