THOSE WERE THE DAYS
27th April 1987

Tim Hollands Testimonial

Hampton 1 (Mooney) Wimbledon 3 Att; 500

A memory from April 1987, but worth recalling for one of Hampton’s ‘legends’. Tim Hollands made his debut for Hampton on 6th September 1977 and during the 1986/87 season was awarded a Testimonial, which included a Dinner and a game against Wimbledon. Wimbledon (the real one!) had just spent their first season in the First Division of the Football League. The Testimonial Dinner had been held some months earlier, attended by the then England Manager, Bobby Robson – later Sir Bobby!
The game itself was played just before Hampton’s appearance in the London Senior Cup Final which unfortunately meant that very little of the game made it into the press. The attendance was disappointingly low, despite the fact that the majority of Wimbledon’s first team played that night. Lee Mooney scored Hampton’s only goal. Tim went on to play for Hampton until the 1994/95 season making 786 appearances. In January 2025 Tim was a welcome visitor to the club to celebrate his career.

Do you have the team sheets Les?
It would be interesting to see who played for Wimbledon.
