They certainly did. Although a decent side this was a slightly nervy performance by them and 2-2 was probably a fair result. Nice little ground at Thatcham, in a scenic area, but the afternoon was marred by a couple of their more idiot players (the keeper being especially guilty) goading some Walton fans into some highly unsavoury behaviour by the tunnel as the players came off, some of it coming to blows. The tannoy announcer chose just a split second before that actual moment to announce that Basingstoke had won the league, which didn't exactly help matters. An eventful afternoon then...Tony wrote: Sat Apr 22, 2023 4:52 pm Looks like Walton have blown it at the last minute drawing 2-2 and handing Basingstoke the championship.

Listening to Mel he felt we did well for the first 40 minutes. He is giving the whole squad a chance and this will help him form opinions for the future. It would not surprise me if he performs a similar selection policy at Welling. If so, then he can tell everyone he has given them opportunity to return next season. Would expect a more familiar lineup next Saturday.
