New season
We missed Julian massively early in the season and has been great on his return. Inman is a rock, my player of the season. Has formed a great partnership with Fernandez, let’s hope he’s next. Looking forward to a pre season where we build patterns of play instead of each one being a full on trial game.

I think that is nine for next season, as has been pointed out, Fernandez and Whittingham are the only two players who formed the core of the squad yet to commit. The base of the team is now in place, Mel will now be concentrating on forwards and getting in players to augment the squad. Let’s hope for some good news.

Agree with all of the above 100%. We just await the (hoped for) news that Messrs Fernadez and Whittingham have committed for next season and the focus can shift onto Mel's recruitment of a top striker and four/five other players to augment the squad and really beef things up.
All good news so far.

I’m happy with the signings to date but the key for me will be the new names we bring on board. We can’t ignore where we have ended up this season with largely the same squad. It goes back to the original question, do we have the contacts and budget to improve the squad?

Time will tell...I would have wanted all these too but, as others have said, the real recruitment starts here.

Yes I would agree with these thoughts that have been expressed. If the other two sign ,then it has been a success and Mel has completed stage one of his mission.
I won’t be surprised if Mel has not got some players lined up, I got that impression from what he has said. Obviously now these discussions need to be put into signings. We have been very happy with the way he has turned things around, so there is no reason why he can’t complete the task. He seemed to allude to a squad of around 20.
From my perspective , the list would be another keeper, central defender, two midfield players and three strikers. There is talk of some 18-22 aged players on trial and these might fill squad roles.
It will depend on the budget and incoming players demands, but I would be very surprised if this has not been fully discussed already.

One club I might keep an eye on is Havant, they had a terrible run in the second half of the season, clearly there is something not quite right there, will be interesting to see their retained list.

Giovanni Critchlow would be a nice rotation option as an attackerShepperton Supporter wrote: Mon May 01, 2023 11:52 am One club I might keep an eye on is Havant, they had a terrible run in the second half of the season, clearly there is something not quite right there, will be interesting to see their retained list.

If you are looking at Havant, my choice would be Roberts. His two year deal expires this summer.
