Hampton kept themselves in the promotion race with a workmanlike display at home to bottom side, Worthing. With exactly half the league season gone, the Beavers were in sixth place. The first half was, to put it mildly, grim – with very little to enthuse the supporters. One ‘highlight’ was a Riley volley, on target. In the 66th minute Hampton made the breakthrough when Rattue’s cross was headed in by Wigmore. Worthing could have equalised shortly after, but were denied by a point blank save by Russell. Stairs went close twice, but it took a goal in the last minute by Cheshire to secure the win. There are times when the win is more important than the performance.
