THOSE WERE THE DAYS
30th March 2018

National (Vanarama) League South

Dartford 1 HRBFC 0 Att; 1,371

HRBFC-
Seny Dieng; Ben Wynter, Josh Casey, Sam Long, Charlie Wassmer, Shaun McAuley, Bradley Hudson-Odoi (Harry Crawford, 72), Shandon Baptiste (Christian Jolley,7/70), Shaun Jeffers, Max Kretzschmar (Michael Kamara, 88), Brendan Kiernan.
Unused Subs; Luke Sheldrick (Gk), Jack Cook

Back in the days of Malcolm Dickenson and Tim Hollands, no one would have given a second thought about playing on a quagmire of a pitch. However, in these days of manicured pitches, when even the hint of a heavy dew causes a few thoughts of postponement – how did the officials allow this game to be played at all. The pitch deteriorated from the start, the rain continued and the game was ruined in all respects. Passes, shots on target were all at a premium, it took thirty minutes before Dartford keeper, Bertie Schotterl had to deal with an attempt on target by Kretzschmar. Twice during the second half the referee spoke to the benches about abandoning the game, but quite remarkably everyone agreed to carry on. Andy Pugh went close for the home side late in the contest and as the game entered into added time it looked for all the world a mud-spattered 0-0 draw. Then, with seconds left, Alfie Pavey found a dry blade of grass and fired in the winner. Dartford won the game but football was the loser.

Remember it well! Amazed the game started, let alone finished!

It was absolutely ridiculous, remember it very clearly. Even in the days of Dicko and Hollands I can't believe it would have gone ahead. SEVEN years ago though?? I'm really getting old...

Some very good players in that team, that went on to play in both the EPL and EFL.
