THOSE WERE THE DAYS
17th April 1971

Spartan League

Molesey 2 Hampton 2 (Farren, Sillett)

Molesey;-
Greg Anning; J Strange, F Fabian, A Kelsall, R Adkins, Brown, P Hanrahan, Jansen, W Cushing, Gregory (John Harvey), R Ericson.

Hampton;-
Joe Andrews; Alan Earl, Keith Hanna, Ray Monk, Dave Johnson, Phil Sperling, Peter Allen, Micky Roach, Brian Myers (Peter Farren), Hugh Lindsay, Jeff Sillett.

A feisty local derby with controversial refereeing saw Hampton down to nine players by the 37th minute, Johnson was sent off after half-an-hour for retaliation; Earl departed seven minutes later after, having been booked for a high kick, he then was seen to push Referee Mr Chaffer and also departed to the dressing room. Added to that, Hampton were already a goal down when in the 26th minute, Jansen and Ericson combined for Cushing to head home. Hampton were gifted a lifeline when following a clearance, Greg Anning kicked out at Allen and conceded a penalty (but was not cautioned), Farren, who had come on for Myers took and scored the spot-kick. Hampton sensed the chance of the game going in their favour. Molesey were pegged back; Allen headed over, Sperling shot wide, Sillett had an overhead kick blocked on the line. In the 83rd minute Hampton equalised, Allen put Sillett away down the left and with Anning off his line, coolly lobbed the keeper.
