THOSE WERE THE DAYS
3rd August 1974

Hampton’s new manager, Ted Murphy, sent out his first squad selection for a friendly at Athenian Leaguers, Uxbridge. Hampton had a good first half, Rogers scoring with a penalty after Rhoden had been flattened in the penalty area. Hampton conceded two corners whilst winning twelve of their own to reinforce their dominance but failed to add to their tally. At the start of the second half, Murphy made several substitutions, and immediately Uxbridge took full advantage to equalise, catching out the Hampton defence. Just before the final whistle, Tunesi looked to have won the game but his shot came back of a post.
Rogers and Tunesi would make their debuts a few weeks later. Rogers would go on to be player manager, whilst Tunesi would earn a Testimonial after a long playing career with the club.
