What could have been a slip-up turned into a very comfortable victory as Hampton eased into the second qualifying round of the F A Cup. Bray scored in the 13th minute to settle any nerves. Prolific striker, Moone, doubled the lead in the 25th minute, following good work by Kamara. Just before half time Kempston had their first clear chance but Chiweshe diverted the ball away. Kempston had more of the possession in the second half but were comfortably held at arm’s length. On the hour Moone and Turner both went close, but it was substitute, Benjamin, who sealed a 3-0 win. Turner played a neat ball through to Benjamin who struck his shot out of the keeper’s reach. Bent did have two late opportunities but was denied.
The Beavers set a new club record of seven consecutive clean sheets, stretching back to the end of the previous season – a record that had been set back in 1967 – and has yet to be bettered.
