THOSE WERE THE DAYS
9th November 2010
Football (Blue Square) Conference South

HRBFC 2 (Stevens, Yaku) Eastleigh 2 Att; 342

HRBFC ;-
Joe Talbot; Ryan Adams, Craig Tanner, Dean Inman, Dave Stevens, Orlando Jeffrey, Lloyd Boeteng (Louis-Rae Beadle, 73’), James Simmonds, Ian Hodges (Lawrence Yaku, 49’), Leo Yarnie (Dave Tarpey, 72’), Nathan Collier.
Unused Subs; Barrie Matthews, Charlie Moone.

As regular keeper, Matt Lovett, was still recovering from injury, young Joe Talbot continued to wear the number 1 shirt. Eastleigh were quick off the blocks, putting the Hampton defence under tremendous pressure and could have been 3-0 up in the first half-hour. Twice Talbot denied Eastleigh with some fine saves. Against the run of play Hampton took the lead in the 32nd minute. Simmonds was fouled out on the right and his free-kick was powered in to the bottom corner by Stevens. Early in the second half Hodges was injured and was replaced by Yaku. Missing Hodges’ physical presence at defensive set pieces, Eastleigh took full advantage with two goals in a five-minute spell. Richard Graham finished from close in and then in the 60th minute Chris Holland fired home at the far post from a flick-on by Tom Jordan. Unaccountably, Eastleigh then sat back and slowed the game down when they had Hampton on the back foot. The game ticked into injury time, Eastleigh made their third and final substitution, Jamie Slabber replaced by Shaun McAuley. After Slabber had sauntered off, keeper Jason Mathews cleared the ball upfield, Simmonds pounced on the ball and instantly swept the ball forward into the path of Yaku who outpaced the defenders and lobbed the ball over Matthews in the 95th minute and celebrated with his trademark somersault.
